The 45th Congress of the Iranian Surgical Society was held from February 17th to 21st, 1403, at the Razavi Convention Center, Iran University of Medical Sciences. The congress was presided over by Dr. Iraj Fazel, with Dr. Ali Jafarian serving as the Scientific Secretary and Dr. Siavash Sehat as the Vice President.
Target groups for the congress included general surgeons, pediatric surgeons, thoracic surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, gynecologists, plastic surgeons, vascular surgeons, otolaryngologists, radiation oncologists, cardiovascular surgeons, urologists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, ophthalmologists, radiologists, anesthesiologists, pathologists, nuclear medicine specialists, forensic medical examiners, nursing staff, and operating room nurses.
The Iranian Surgical Society consists of 11 associations, each contributing to the annual congress with scientific and educational programs, including lectures, research papers, workshops, and live surgeries.
Lecture topics covered a wide range of subjects, such as findings from the James Webb Telescope, the future of medicine in Iran, defensive medicine, and strategies for preventing medical malpractice. Panel discussions focused on hemorrhagic and traumatic shock, coagulation disorders, the role of screening in cancer prevention, artificial intelligence in surgery, regenerative medicine, diagnostic challenges in various medical conditions, multiple trauma management, imaging applications in common cancers, neck masses, challenges in surgical education, intestinal obstruction, pain management in surgical patients, vascular trauma, acute abdomen, hernia surgery, common benign anorectal diseases, diagnosis and treatment of biliary tract diseases, and obesity management.
